Goodwill strives to be an environmentally conscious organization through its recycling efforts. You are helping us by donating your gently used items to our retail stores, giving others an opportunity to re-use them.

By recycling what we can’t sell, however, we are diverting tons of items from the landfill. Goodwill’s outlet store, located just south of downtown, has centralized our salvage and recycling operations while at the same time giving shoppers one more chance to buy goods at the lowest possible price.

Last year alone, Goodwill salvaged or recycled more than 11,000 tons of metals, textiles and paper.

Another way Goodwill recycles its donations is through partnerships with other nonprofit organizations in need. Goodwill gives art supplies and books to local schools, food and clothing to shelters, and shoes and eyeglasses to organizations who then distribute those items to individuals in need.

Goodwill was honored by the Washington Envrionmental Council for its work on a landmark electronic-waste bill that will greatly reduce the amount of toxic materials released by discarded computers and televisions through an innovative recycling network. Find out about our partnership with E-Cycle WA
