Summer Youth Training and Outdoor Skills Building Program
From July 6 through Aug. 30, Goodwill, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation and Center for Career Alternatives (CCA), is offering a summer program for 30 teens ages 15 to 17 in the community.
In the morning at Goodwill, students learn retail and customer service skills to prepare them for jobs; conflict resolution skills; training in cultural awareness; environmental stewardship; how to apply to college; and other important skills.
They work with Seattle Parks and Recreation staff in the afternoons to restore trails, cull invasive plants and work on park stewardship projects to earn service learning hours required for high school graduation. CCA provides case management support.
GOODWILL WORKS
Our “soft skills” program teaches participants the skills, attitudes and behaviors that pertain to personality rather than to formal or technical knowledge. Without these basic life skills, it is difficult to succeed in a job.
